tutoring demands more than just academic expertise on the
part of the tutor. Developing a warm, positive relationship
with the student, without fostering dependency, is the
key to establishing a foundation for learning. Providing
the student with clear structure and technique for how
to approach challenging material is the art of tutoring.
By stimulating the learning process, the tutor is able
to help the student gain the self awareness (meta-cognitive
skills) needed to succeed in applying strategies independently.
